“I was running around all day.” She rubbed her face on his shoulder. “Training a new person, trying to do inventory, had my yearly review, had to fix conversions, my computer’s WiFi went down…” She sighed. “Me sleep now.”
“Yeah. Reggie.” Ray frowned as he inspected his wrench.
“Is he sticking around now that you’re back” Becky nudged a dirty rag off the couch.
“I guess. But,” his wrench clanged against his other tools as he tossed it back into his box, “he’s such a lickspittle.” Becky snorted. “I’m serious.” He picked up the rag from the floor and rubbed his hands. The oil stains didn’t become any lighter.
“May lets him get away with being a suck up?” Ray spun so his and Becky’s knees bumped.
“Totally.” Ray groaned. “He always asks what she needs, compliments her work, takes out the trash, and takes her side in everything. I’ve never seen anyone fall over himself in order to impress someone.”
“Sounds annoying.”
“Maya admits he’s annoying, but she’s also flattered.”
“That can’t be the only reason she’s keeping him.” Becky gasped. “Oh no.” Ray laughed. “That dude pretty much has ever variation of headlight replacement procedures memorized. And which cars use them.”
“And…?” Becky tilted her head.
“It saves time, not having to look up how to do the job.” Ray shrugged. “And he’s just fast in general.”
“Do you each have your niche?” Becky yawned and lay her head on his shoulder.
“Yeah. May and I do classic cars. Reggie is headlights and tires. Lex is the electronics. And Kevin does…” Becky’s snore interrupted Raymundo. “Sleepy?”
“I was running around all day.” She rubbed her face on his shoulder. “Training a new person, trying to do inventory, had my yearly review, had to fix conversions, my computer’s wifi went down…” She sighed. “Me sleep now.”
“Staying over tonight?” Becky nodded.
“Then let’s get you into bed.” Ray grabbed her hands and pulled her to her feet. He led her in the bedroom and helped her into bed. He pulled back the sheets and tucked her under the fluffy comforter.
“So, what are you going to do about the annoying Reggie?” She yawned again.
“I’m not really going to do anything.” He got into the bed next to her and she immediately snuggled up to him. “Well, I made a bet with May.”
“Did you now?” She blinked up at him, but her eyes couldn’t stay open. “What about?” She mumbled.
“I bet May that Reggie wouldn’t be such a suck up if he learned about her flirtation with the bartender next door.”
“Ha.” Her grin was only full for a moment. “Well, if that happens maybe she’ll get rid of him.”
“I can only hope.” He hugged Becky.
